This initiative focuses on the pressing issue of plastic waste in the Southeast Asia region, with a special emphasis on the Mekong countries: Thailand, Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia. The aim is to:
(i) enhance the monitoring system for plastic leakage, incorporating science, technology, and innovation (STI) into comprehensive solutions, and (ii) to establish a benchmark for plastic waste monitoring frameworks at the city level, contributing to the advancement of waste management practices.
The project promotes cross-sector collaboration to establish a benchmark for
city-level plastic waste monitoring frameworks. It aligns with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life Below
Water) by reducing plastic pollution, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption
and Production) through better waste management, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by mitigating environmental impacts.
Additionally, it supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by reducing pollution-related health risks and SDG 4
(Quality Education) by empowering communities with waste management knowledge. Through science, technology, and
community engagement, the project fosters long-term environmental resilience and sustainability.
